Episode 2: Violating the Violin! - electric rock violin pioneer Mark Wood

Upcoming Gigs: September 9 - Beethoven Concerto with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, September 12 and 13 - Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Boise Philharmonic, September 21 - recital in New York (styles including baroque, virtuoso romantic, blues, Celtic, American fiddling, Latin, and heavy metal)

Mailbox Mayhem: Peter writes "I just wanted to thank you for turning me on to classical music. I'm 36 years old and have been a lifelong fan of heavy metal. Metallica and Slayer are a couple of my favorites... I've always found classical music to be boring, but that's because I never gave it a chance and really listened to it. Then one day I heard you on the radio when you played some AC/DC and Zeppelin on the violin along with a classical piece and I was blown away. I immediately went out and bought "Storming the Citadel" and have been a fan of yours ever since. I now have CDs by Mozart, Bartok, Debussy and others alongside CDs by Motorhead, Megadeth and Sepultura. Thank you for broadening my horizons." Tom writes: "Thank you for introducing me to the classical side of music - It's now a preset on my radio in the truck."

A conversation with my rock violin hero, Mark Wood, inventor of the 7-string Viper electric violin. Includes tracks from two of Mark's recordings: "Violator" from "Against the Grain" and "Tortured Soul" from "Van Helsing's Curse."

Mark's Classical Recommendations:
Mahler - Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection Symphony"
Mahler - Symphony No. 8 "Symphony of a Thousand"
Bartok - Concerto for Orchestra
Prokofiev - Violin Concerto No. 2
Brahms - anything!
Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring
Stravinsky - Firebird Suite
Copland - anything
Beethoven - Symphony No. 7 (especially the 2nd movement)
